inserts is the first comprehensive monograph on the abstract works of Bremen-based artist Christian Haake. At the juncture between painting and sculpture, Haake develops unique pictorial spaces inspired by urban phenomena of form. His built panel paintings and spatial installations are subtle reflections of time, memory, and the question of how individual perception reciprocally engages with collectively shaped ideas of city and architecture.
The essays accompanying his work shed light on how Christian Haake's architectural diaries as "thought-images" of liquid modernity mirror the contradictions inherent to late capitalist life forms and invite us to take a different approach to viewing the spaces we fill with life and leave behind.
Christian Haake (b. 1969) studied Fine Arts at the University of the Arts Bremen and graduated as a Meisterschüler under Yuji Takeoka in 2009. Most recently he has participated in exhibitions at Hamburger Kunsthalle, Kunsthalle Bremen, and Bundeskunsthalle Bonn.
