Since 1987, Petra and Paul Kahlfeldt have been handling a wide range of architectural projects through their practice, primarily in Berlin and the surrounding area, throughout Germany, and occasionally in other European and non-European countries. They oversee the entire process, from design through to on-site supervision of the construction work. Their portfolio includes a number of significant historic buildings, such as the Berlin buildings designed by BEWAG's chief architect Hans Heinrich Müller, the Villa Kampffmeyer in Potsdam, the Berlin Philharmonic Hall and Berlin Cathedral, as well as a range of modern private villas in Berlin, Potsdam, Munich and throughout Germany.

This volume presents the firm's projects, organised into seven sections: residential buildings, urban housing, rural developments, interiors, craftsmanship and individual forms, work and culture, and urban space.

Petra Kahlfeldt: Born in 1960 in Kaiserslautern, she studied at the Technical University of Berlin and in Florence. In 1997-98, she was a scholarship holder at the Villa Massimo in Rome. As a university lecturer, she taught in Hamburg, Cesena (Italy) and at Berlin University of the Arts. She was a member of the Berlin State Monument Council and numerous design advisory boards, and has been Berlin's Senate Building Director since 2021.

Paul Kahlfeldt: Born in 1956 in Berlin, he completed an apprenticeship as a carpenter and cabinetmaker, studied at the Technical University of Berlin, and served as head of Josef Paul Kleihues's Berlin office; he taught as a university professor in Kaiserslautern and Dortmund. He served on the board of the International Academy of Architecture in Berlin and was active in the German Werkbund. He obtained his doctorate from Delft University of Technology in the Netherlands.
